2009 Agenda

The GreenBiz Executive Network includes two in-person meetings and quarterly teleconferences. Quarterly teleconferences are open to all employees within member organizations. Future sessions include:

SPRING 2009 MEETING

The spring meeting for the GreenBiz Executive Network will be held in San Francisco on May 21 and feature four major topics for discussion.

Structured for Sustainability. Omnipotent CSO or collaborative committee? GreenBiz Intelligence surveyed more than 220 international companies with revenues over $1 billion to determine how they are organizing for sustainability. What are the leading practices for successful internal and external communications? How do they measure success? And where’s the ROI?

Other sessions will include:

  • Sustainability Benchmarking. Establishing criteria for benchmarking corporate sustainability activities
  • Eco-labeling. As buyers — both consumers and B-to B — look for guidance, the world of eco-labeling and certification continues to frustrate even those who sincerely want to get it right. This session will discuss current best practices and strategies.
  • Finding Success in Failure. We all know we learn from our mistakes, but roadblocks and failures are rarely discussed openly. GreenBiz Executive Network members discuss the frustrations and failures that have helped leaders learn and companies improve.
  • Autodesk Gallery Tour. The Autodesk Gallery at One Market in San Francisco was built to celebrate the design process that takes a great idea and turns it into a reality. As hosts to this event, Autodesk will demonstrate how they are helping their clients design for a more sustainable future.

TELECONFERENCES

Telling Your Green Story: How Good is Good Enough?

Companies face challenges as they walk the fine line between publicizing their successful environmental efforts and incurring an indifferent (or negative) reaction from customers, NGOs, and a broader public. During a recent GreenBiz Executive Network teleconference, we invited Joel Makower (author of “Strategies for the Green Economy” and founder of GreenBiz.com) to lead a discussion with over 25 of the network’s members. Employee Engagement Programs that Drive Sustainability

Findings from the recently published National Environmental Education Foundation's report “The Engaged Organization” will be presented along with case studies from member companies that describe how they are using innovative technologies along with more traditional methods to promote sustainability within their organizations.
